Anna Ter Haar & Chris Bartels

The ideas and the visuals behind this short film are very similar to our ideas. The video “illustrates the influence of a group on the identity of an individual”. With the models not moving it allows the visuals to be made a whole piece of moving art. The aim of our video is to show the identity of Manchester through different areas, all merged together and shown on one person as a projection. The images are to move around showing each person in the groups work.

Rusholme at Night

These drawings are from a visit I made to Rusholme at night. I have managed to capture the colours and shapes the lights from the restaurants make. I used oil pastel on black card.

Green screen/chroma key

This is one of the videos explaining green screen that I've found. I think it would work quite well at editing out the projection that we dont want in the background so we could give it a try? And it doesnt seem too complicated if we can find the right software on the macs.

Models- ideas for hair and makeup

I have been looking at ideas for our models in the projection. I was thinking that we want something striking and non-human but not too fussy to distract away from the projected images.

We could dress the models in simple white clothing and maybe paint their arms and faces white. For the makeup we could maybe
use black lipstick and draw a line across their eyes as a kind of mask. We could also maybe look into contact lenses to make the model look less human. We could have all the models looking the same or have some differences between them if we use more than one.

A tight bun on the top of the head is a good idea to use as it is simple and holds the hair out of the way.
I think that the black and white theme could work really well on the models. It would give a blank canvas for the projection. I'll do some sketches of different ideas that I have.

Art projections

An animation of our concept.

This is an animation that I have created to demonstrate the concept that our group is trying to achieve. The images on the dress are by other members in the group. I have tried to create a sense of having clothing that can be altered by having images projected on to it. We want to create clothing that is truly temporary and carries with it a real feel of 'Manchester', and what the city stands for, culturally.

Live Projection Mapping Test Shoot on Vimeo

Live Projection Mapping Test Shoot on Vimeo
After todays attempts of projecting on the body, I found this video. They have succesfully projected their designs onto the body without it hitting any of the background, so it is possible!!
